This sturgeon is wildely distributed in most of the rivers in Siberia. It lives in fresh water and its shape varies among regions. A small fish, it mesuares between 80 cm (21/2 feet) and 1.5 meters (5 feet), and it weighs between 7 kg (15 lbs) and 12 kg (26 lbs).

Its caviar is dark grey to black with very slight color variations.
Its grain is small to medium size (2.4 to 2.7 mm) and its flavor reminds of Asetra.
